Sonos · ADU & guest house

HomeSonosGuide

Sonos for the guest house that still feels like one home.

Join the main house for dinner. Keep the cottage private when guests sleep. One household, with a path between the buildings and a way for visitors to press play.

Main house and guest cottage across a lit courtyard — one household evening, two buildings

Key Benefits

Dinner together, night apart

The cottage groups with the main house for guests, then drops out when people sleep.

One path across the yard

Both buildings on one household network — not a second system that will not group.

Guests play without your login

Clear room names and a narrow guest path. Admin stays with the owners.

Dinner moves outside, and the cottage comes with it — same song in the kitchen, across the yard, and in the guest living room while people arrive. Later, when the cottage is asleep, the main house keeps the music and the guest house stays quiet. Join when you entertain. Keep it private when you do not.

During a build, in-ceiling or in-wall speakers keep the cottage looking finished, with a dry indoor Amp when a courtyard speaker should join the household.

One path, one household

Groups across the yard work when both buildings share one home network. A second Wi‑Fi name, a guest network that walls devices off, or a node hopping the yard leaves the cottage alone — playlists that stop at the kitchen door. HomeIQ designs that path so guest house and main house are one household, whether the landscape is still open or the cottage is already finished.

A compact cottage rarely needs a speaker in every corner. One living room that can join the party, a bedroom that stays quiet, and a courtyard that joins only when you ask is a clearer house. Keep levels neighbor-aware when the cottage sits close to someone else's windows.

What HomeIQ does

Tell us where the cottage sits, who stays there, and which rooms must stay private. The plan names one household, a path between the buildings, and labels a guest can read — Cottage living, Courtyard, Main kitchen. Visitors start music without your login (AirPlay where speakers support it, or a keypad scene if Crestron or Lutron is already in the house). You keep the household account. Privacy is the default: rooms begin ungrouped; the courtyard joins only when someone means it to.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the guest house join the main house?

Yes, when both buildings are one household network and the path between them is part of the design. The cottage can join for dinner and stay private at night.

Do guests need our Sonos account?

No. Visitors can start music without your login — AirPlay where the speakers support it, or a scene if Crestron or Lutron is already in the house.

What if the cottage is already finished?

We still design one household path. Open landscape makes the link simpler. A finished cottage needs a realistic one for the distance and what is already there.

Do you install and support Sonos?

Yes. We design, install and support Sonos systems, with the network planned alongside the speakers.
